Personal information is usually kept in a locked drawer. Unfortunately, Windows does not provide the equivalent of a lockable drawer, so it is not safe to store sensitive information on a computer. If you wish to keep your personal notes safe on your computer, you can use Data Guardian to store it in a secure database. The application is completely customizable, so you can store any kind of information.

The software is available for Windows XP or later, as well as Mac OS X 10.6 or later. You can also find earlier Data Guardian versions, which are compatible with older operating systems. In terms of hardware requirements, the software is not too demanding, but certain versions work only with Intel processors.

Data Guardian provides a clean and simple interface, which has a modern design. You may create folders on the left side of the window and use them to store any kind of records. You can also create smart folders and set the program to include certain entries, depending on one or more sets of rules, which you can define.

Flexibility is the program's main characteristic, when it comes to creating records. All you have to do is type in the relevant information in different input fields. The best part is that you may customize each input field. Besides changing a field's name, you can also change its type. The software allows you to set an input field to contain plain text, a password, picture, email address, a check box, slider or other elements. The software will display different options next to a field, depending on its type. For example, if you create a password field, you will find options for hiding a password or generating a new one.

You can also lock records, mark them as private and color code them. By default, new records are stored in the Unfiled, but you can move them to other folders just by clicking and dragging. Right clicking a record will reveal a series of options for copying the information from certain input fields, opening URLs on your web browser and more. Besides protecting your database with a password, you can find other security measures, in the program's general settings menu. You can set it to clear the clipboard every few minutes or when the database or the program is closed. Additionally, you may create a password template and set the software to auto-lock when the computer idles for a few minutes.

Pros

The software allows you to customize input fields, so you can store any kind of information. You can organize your records in regular folders or smart folders. Besides password protecting your database, you can also set the program to clear the clipboard or lock itself automatically.

Cons

Certain Data Guardian versions work only with Intel processors. With Data Guardian, any information you consider to be important can be stored safely, in a secure database, as fast and easy as possible.
